We must stop worshiping what ought not to be worshiped.
Lent confronts our temptation to worship the world and dismiss our own sinfulness. We need to a time to consider our weakness, so that we can grow strong. Consider the temptation of Christ described in Luke's gospel. The temptations placed before Christ, though different, we all the same. Satan tempted Jesus to choose the world and his own flesh over His Father's will, just as he tempted Adam in the garden. But Jesus had prayed and fasted, so he was ready to reject the idols Satan placed before him, even in his weakness. When we use the season of Lent to pursue humility and sanctification, we too find strength to reject the idols that come into our lives.
Jesus was willing to take on the pain of fasting and temptation for our sake. His pain is our gain. Let us follow in Christ's example. Listen to learn how at www.QCAradio.org.
